ONE MONTH BEFORE YOUR MOVE

Book a moving company. If you are moving
in the summer months you may want to
consider calling movers 2 months in
advance.

Notify doctors, dentists, and other
service providers.

Order moving and packing supplies.

Begin packing, securely taping and
clearly labeling boxes.

Discard any unwanted items. (Contact
local charity regarding donations of
these unwanted items.)

Notify the Post Office

WEEKS BEFORE YOUR MOVE

Arrange time off from work to prepare
for the move and to be present on the
day of your move.

Make arrangements for a babysitter/pet
sitter for the day of your move.

Make arrangements for parking permits if
needed.

Notify water company.
-
Notify telephone company.
-
Notify electric company.
-
Notify registry of motor vehicles.
-
Notify gas company of change of address
and to schedule disconnection of any gas
appliances being moved.

Notify cable company.

Notify alarm company.
-
Notify Internet Service Provider.
-
Notify oil company.
-
Coordinate disassembly of large items
(pool tables, jungle gyms, and swing
sets, etc.).
ONE
WEEK BEFORE YOUR MOVE

Confirm moving date and time with your
moving company.

Remove fragile or loose items from
drawers.
-
Remove all permanently affixed items you
wish to take (ceiling fans, drapes,
light fixtures, etc.).

Provide moving company with new contact
information.
ONE DAY
BEFORE YOUR MOVE
-
Disconnect propane tank from gas grill.
-
Drain waterbeds.
-
Drain gas and oil from lawn mowers,
generators, and leaf blowers.
-
Identify furniture that is fragile by
nature or has been weakened by previous
damage and prepare to bring it to the
movers attention on move day.

Separate and label items you plan to
move yourself.
-
Place clearly-labeled, fragile boxes in
one area.
-
Put checkbook, keys, passports, plane
tickets, cash, and credit cards in a
safe place.
